After Colony, I got the wild idea to try to find the Darlington Agency at El Reno. Last year when we were at Fort Reno the woman had given me a general idea of where the site of the old Indian Agency at El Reno was and I thought I could find it. I couldn't. But from the clues I had the direction finder in our phones could. And this flat place is the point on the Chisholm Trail where the Indian Agency was established.
My great grandfather came delivering the mail and then was hired to be a stone mason. We didn't know if these stone buildings were left from those days or not. But, they might have been.
Obviously they have been regrouted or tuck pointed or whatever they call fixing stone work is. It is now the site of Chapel Creek Winery and Redlands Community College Ag program.
We talked to a man who knew of our great grandfather. He said that they viewed him as the first ag teacher on the site.
Sister and I took many photos of the old stone sheds.
But the afternoon was wearing away and we were hungry. We decided to find an Applebees. But, after several tries, and no such luck, we decided to eat BBQ. but the place we headed for wasn't open.
So that evening this was our Applebees. It was Mexican and it was delicious.
Although the server is probably still commenting on the amount of water that I drank. And that concluded our first day in Oklahoma. We headed for Weatherford and decided to spend our final night in Kansas.
More on that later.
