Jennifer Fulwiler hosts this bloggy carnival. Go around and visit the rest.
1. Last week as soon as school go out on Thursday I headed up to Quincy to be with my mom for her doctor's appointment and birthday. She got a good report from the doctor and I convinced her to ask for a handicapped placard. At first Mom was sure she wouldn't qualify, but the doctor agreed with me that she would.
Mom's 92nd birthday was a low key affair. We ended up at Applebees after the first choice place wasn't open for lunch. We talked after lunch at Mom's and had the Red Velvet cake that I bought at the HyVee.
2. While I was up there, tornadoes broke out all over the Midwest. My son's house (our old house) sustained some damage again. He lost the 20 year old redbud tree. Some of the metal trim was blown away from the gables. He didn't have power for over 24 hours. Once again, the neighborhood looks like a war zone with branches and downed electrical lines. Luckily, our own house didn't lose power for long.
3. And up the river in Quincy, the news had to do more with the flooding. The Mississippi was high, very high. The Cuivre River was way out of the banks. That picture is of a park that would have had a road and parking lot, now underwater.
4. And in case you are wondering about tv ratings, my mom (92) revealed that she was once again called on to keep a television watching diary for the ratings. I suppose she is representative of that vital 90+ demographic. Probably a small pool of viewers to call on for the television watching diary. She said this is the second or third year she has been doing this. It is a wonder Lawrence Welk and C-Span haven't zoomed up in the ratings.
5. I went for a mile walk on Monday. That was the first time since my ankle/foot injury on May 6th. It went okay. I am out of shape completely. I went slow. With every step I anticipated that I might hurt my foot again.
I called the doctor about my sinus infection. I am ready for antibiotics. I am sure the doctor won't be ready to give them to me. I will see him this afternoon. I think I will push for a blood test to check white count if he won't give me anything.
6. The best thing about summer is going to daily Mass. I have really missed that. Our associate who is leaving has been doing the 8am Masses. I will really miss him. I hear the new senior associate is good, so I look forward to him as well.
I went for spiritual direction and I am praying for, working on love again. I love it!
7. My sister an I are going on a little trip next week so I will be putting the veri-word instead of the approval of comments. Sorry about the veri-word thing, but I won't be approving comments with any regularity.
