O Key of David, opening the gates of God's eternal Kingdom: come and free the prisoners of darkness!
Keys, how essential they are in our world. I have two keychains worth of keys to operate my life. I have keys for work and keys for home. I have the key to my mother's house, even though she doesn't live there anymore. Even the lights at my library operate with a key. My car has this really complex key that will open the trunk or sound an alarm.
But when I think of keys that I would really like to have, the keys to the gates of Heaven would be the truest and most valuable keys of all. Here on earth we are so often prisoners of darkness. Lost and sad and feeling alone. Imagine how it would be without Christ, without Christmas? Hope was given to us in a stable in the humble human form of a baby. That baby brought the keys of the Kingdom into the world with Him! Praise God!
O Key of David, O royal Power of Israel controlling at your will the gate of heaven: come, break down the prison walls of death for those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death; and lead your captive people into freedom. Amen
