1. Saturday my family gathered at my brother's house in Quincy for a happy reunion. Mom and her four children. It was a happy day. My brother grilled steaks and had a wonderful meal including dessert. Who knew that both my brothers can cook?
Cards were played by the boys. We picked tomatoes from the garden along with peppers and cucumbers and made a lovely salad.
2. I am philosophically opposed to shopping on Sunday. But, practically sometimes it seems necessary and this was one of those Sundays. I figure that I did the family thing on Saturday, precluding shopping. After Mass we did some shopping.
3. Monday school started with the kids. It was an easy start, no big problems or challenges. But my old feet and legs aren't taking it as well as they used to.
4. Tuesday was a long day at school and prayer group. And I have to say frankly this time of year you have to be careful who you talk to and how friendly you get. Because if they like you (or even if they don't) they give you tomatoes. I have them piled up on the counter. I don't like them from the ice box. They taste sweeter to me au natural. But for the 2 of us, we have way too many tomatoes on the counter. And although they are delightful, I am getting tired of them at every meal.
5. So Wednesday we had BLTs for dinner. I have been too tired to really be interested in creative cooking--frozen pizza (I baked it) one night and BLTs another. I wish I had something funny or interesting to say about the first week of school with the kids. I have already had 6 turned in applications for my book club. That made me feel good. They are acting as though if they didn't turn in the application early I wouldn't let them be part of the club and that would be a bad thing. I take them all and I am happy to have them, these nerdy great readers. They are my peeps! But, we won't start meeting until September.
6. Thursday was the holy day and the librarian's meeting after school. We were picking books for our book challenge for this year. I went to 6:30 am Mass so that I could do the librarian's dinner without concerns about time. I had fun. It is really fun to talk to people who have the exact same problems that I do.
7. I had not had any high school students apply for the position of high school helper. I thought I might have to get this library show on the road all by myself again this year. But then I got some phone calls and yay! I am sure that I will have one this year.
