Jennifer Fulwiler is back in the saddle again hosting this carnival of blogs. Go around and meet some new blogs.
1. Last Friday I learned in an email that my little God-daughter is not receiving First Holy Communion in Quincy this coming weekend, but rather in Chicago where she has moved with her mother. My brother will be joining them sometime in the next year. It is a job thing. He was apologetic about the last minute change because it will be harder for me to get to the event. I was happy though and felt that it was an answer to prayer because my sister-in-law who isn't a practicing Christian took the initiative to register her daughter in the nearest Catholic parish and arrange for this. I have been praying for her conversion and continue. Baby steps.
2. My First Communion gift to her is this--
She is a dolly with her own First Holy Communion dress.
3. In a moment of complete insanity, I agreed to hold a one day only buy one, get one Book Fair on May 21st. I have perhaps mentioned how much I hate book fairs? I may have mentioned this on the blog a couple of times. I don't hate that the kids get nice books, but selling them and minding the store is something I hate to do. But, here I go again. And have I mentioned, we don't get any profit? Insanity. I will be knee deep into overdues and inventory and state reports by that date. What was I thinking?
So, the box to advertise the Book Fair has already arrived and I put up a poster. They promised--no boxes. A case only book fair. I am sure it will still exhaust me.
4. Hubby and I are praying the Rosary together for May every day. We usually don't get to it until bedtime. It is a nice way to go to sleep, right after praying the Rosary.
5. Talking to one of the TAs this week, he told me that he went to the elementary school I used to teach at. He had my friend who sometimes comes back to sub for me. Looking at his over 6 ft tall person, fully a grown up, it makes me feel old. Sort of.
I have moved around so much that I never lived in a place long enough to have grown ups around that I taught. But, now I do. When they start being parents of my middle schoolers, then it will be time to retire. Maybe.
6. At prayer group we talked about humility. We concluded that if you are proud of your humility, you probably have nothing to be proud of. Humility is tough. Pride is the deadly sin that opposes humility. And who among us isn't proud of something?
7. Time is racing by. All my library books are due Monday! Oh, the work I have to do before I put that library "baby" to bed. More than 18,000 books to inventory. State reports to write. Order magazines. Make a plan for next year. (My school won the book quiz competition, so I don't know how we will top that next year.) And then there will be the book fair.
