O Wisdom of our God Most High, guiding creation with power and love: come to teach us the path of knowledge!
Today begins the first of the seven O Antiphons. If you go to Mass today you will hear this one proclaimed before the gospel. Another place that you have encountered these antiphons is in the seven verses of "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." The seven antiphons are doled out one each day until Christmas beginning today.
Today we beg God in His wisdom to teach us in His power and love. Power and love seem to be almost opposites. Yet when we remember our childhoods, doesn't the role of parent seem to be power and love? In that power and love of our parents we can feel secure. In a much greater way, we can feel secure in the power and love of God. Teach us to know You , O Wisdom. Help us to trust You and to know You. Come to us!
