The centerpiece is the piece that makes each table special. I haven't seen two tables with the same centerpiece in two years of Advent By Candlelight.
I bought a centerpiece at Kohls that I used for two years.
The tea candles in this piece are a pain because I can't dig them out and they need replacing after two years. One of my guests was rather critical of the burning down candles last year. I decided that I would go with LED lights this year. I am always a little nervous about candles and fire.
I made this little quilted centerpiece cloth last year but didn't finish it by Advent By Candlelight. This year it is finished and ready to go.
If I were going to recommend any preparation to the hostess, I would say, "Plan the centerpiece." The rest of the stuff can be anything. Some women really do a whole theme and everything goes together. I am not one of those women, but I want my table to look nice and inviting.

These LED candles even have real wax with a scent. I knew as soon as I saw them that they would be perfect for my "bird cage."
I bought this cage from on online candle party. The fruit was from an ACTS retreat centerpiece that someone gave me years ago. I wrapped some red sparkly garland in it and plan to get some battery powered Christmas lights. The pillar will be the LED lights and I can leave the top of the cage on.

I bought this wreath at he end of the season last year. I like the muted colors for Advent and they go with the LED candles.
Once I put the sparkly lights around, I think it will be fine.
