Jen Fulwiler who seems to be my muse for this blog, at least for the posts that more than ten people read, has suggested making a blog list of photos that define one's blog. This is going to be harder than it sounds, I think. But, here goes--
1. Quilting is my sanity project. I notice that many women knit. There is too much counting with the knitting for me. I make baby quilts and pray for the babies. I suppose it fills some small desire to be a grandmother. (I have a son who is not yet married.) I enjoy working with the colors and the fabric. It is my art. And when I am done with it, I give it away.
2. I am a public middle school librarian. I really love my job, but not every moment of every day. There is craziness involved. But boxes of new books make it all worth it. I do a book club that has become surprisingly popular among the self proclaimed nerds. They tell me that nerds are cool, and who am I to question it?
3. I have a mom who is 92. As her oldest and favorite child (I jest), I am the one who has taken on the main task of walking into very old age with her. My mom grew up with a cook stove requiring corncobs to fuel it, no indoor plumbing, an outhouse, no electricity until after she was through high school, a horse and buggy that her mom drove into the village to trade her eggs, and first taught in a one room school. A lot has changed in my mom's life time.
4. I love birds and especially hawks. I am not sure why. I see hawks as a theophany, a visible sign of God's presence and love. I know that not everyone would agree with that, but hawks are a sign to me.
5. I have a close personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the leadings of the Holy Spirit. And yet, I am a hardcore, died in the wool Catholic. The scriptures speak to me. The events in my life speak to me. I have learned that everything isn't nice and easy. Some things are tough and rough. But when I am scared, I have Christ's hand to hold. I am sustained by the community of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
6. I love to travel. I am energized by going places and seeing things. My sister and I have been going to Oklahoma the past couple of years and we have decided that we are writing a book. It will be quite a project. But, fun, I hope. At any rate, I enjoy the travels involved in the research.
