Saturday I went on a little trip to the state capitol in Jefferson City. There was a librarian's meeting at the capitol and my district paid the entire way--registration, lunch, gas and somebody else drove. I can't say I learned a lot or that it was fun, but it was a trip out of town.
And looking from below up the dome. The meeting was pretty worthless because the speaker who was going to talk about librarian evaluations was sick. But, it was an interesting day in the state capitol.
Missouri's capitol building in my opinion is rather standard. It is not as impressive as the Illinois capitol on the outside.
But inside the place is decorated and decorated with layers and layers of fancy.
There are mural under the dome in the rotunda.
We met there in the rotunda of the state capitol.
We ate lunch there (although there were signs saying no food or drink).
I am thinking the murals may have been done during the WPA.
They have that 30s look.
I liked some of the quotes. This one says--The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof.
And this one--Lord God of Hosts be with us yet--Lest we forget.
