Revenge

I don't watch a lot of television these days.  I was a child of the 60s and I watched it all from My Mother the Car to Mister Ed and Ed Sullivan.....I watched them all.  But over the years either television has gotten worse or I have just grown tired of it.

I never watched the show called Revenge, but I have seen previews. Not speaking from actual knowledge of the particular show but just speaking on the premise--that one should take of the cause of revenge, I have to say that show sounds like one of the most anti-Christian shows I have ever heard of.  Revenge isn't a Christian concept.

Remember that Christ called us to LOVE our enemies and do good to those who have harmed us?  That is tough stuff to swallow for sure. I had a great deal of trouble with forgiveness for quite a while.  Then I think God took me on a course of insults and curses and hardships of various kinds until I finally got it.  Forgive them, for they know not what they do.  Forgive them for my own sake.  Forgive them, because not forgiving does me harm.  Forgive them, because I want also to be forgiven. Forgive them because God loves them as much as He loves me.  Forgive them and leave them for the Lord to judge and school and fix.

Revenge as a show may be fascinating to watch.  I just hope that the idea that revenge is a good thing, doesn't seep into our already wounded culture.  Holding onto hatred and seeking revenge hurts the seeker more than the object of their hate.  Unforgiveness eats you away from the inside out. I hope that we can learn to seek reconciliation, forgiveness, and love and not hatred and revenge.
