Ides of April

April 15th is the average last frost day of the year around these parts.  Sometimes we have a later frost, but we all agree to really complain about it if we do.  Sometimes we have an early spring and temperatures feel like summer on this day.  That's how things roll in the middle of the middle of the United States.

The biggest difficulty with the frost to 80s temperature shift in 24 hours is the wind it brings.  Sometimes the winds are called "sheer" or straight line winds, and sometimes they rotate and form tornadoes.  Tornadoes are like hurricanes only faster and more intense.  They do a lot of damage.

Everybody who lives around these parts has a tornado story or two to tell.  Tornadoes are a big deal.  The tornado that hit my neighborhood a couple of years ago is finally being completely erased.  Two houses in my neighborhood were completely torn down and await some one's new dream to replace.  There are a smattering of others that are finally being put back together.  It takes time to heal the wounds.

A tornado hit this past Wednesday night in my school district.  Many homes were destroyed.  School was called off on Thursday.  But, praise God, nobody was seriously injured, nobody was killed.  Like ants we humans will go about the task of righting the situation, rebuilding the homes, clearing away the debris.

I was sitting in the basement of the house of a friend with my "Yaya" women's group sisters.  The Catholicism DVD we planned to watch was cut off by the power outage.  But it was good to be together praying to the Lord.
